Top 10 Best Shaving Brushes 2014

Please do not call yourself a real man if you are still using a can of shaving foam to get you started in the morning! The proper way to give yourself a shave is to use a shaving brush and shaving cream to create enough lather to go on with the shaving process. And, by the way, if you are going to grow up to a real shaving set, make sure to check our Top Ten Best Safety Razors of 2014 list. But to get back to the matter at hand, using a shaving brush is not about being conservative or traditionalist, but about giving your face the class treatment it deserves. The truth is that no foam from a can compare with the quality of a shaving lather you create on your own. We have hand picked the top ten best shaving brushes of 2014 for you, and you can check out the table bellow or scroll past it to get to the in depth review we have given each one.

1. Edwin Jagger 1ej946sds Traditional English Best Badger Hair Shaving Brush

We are just going to start with our all time favorite shaving brush. It is not the most expensive brush that you can buy, but it is not the cheapest either. It is made from actual badger hairs because they are the perfect medium to carry water to your face and to create lather. Their strength is of just the right tension to gently massage your face as you are creating the lather and so to get the skin ready for shaving. It uses a hand crafted polyester handle that may last an entire life time, and it comes with a drying stand that we really encourage you to use. It will not only prolong the life of the badger hairs in the brush, but it will also help kill off any bacteria that may develop.

2. Escali 100% Pure Badger Shaving Brush

We have already pointed out just how important badger hair is for a shaving brush. It not only creates the leather but it also massages the skin and gets the hairs in your beard to rise up so that you will get a really clean shave. The Escali uses the exact same hairs as the Edwin Jagger but it is mass produced and they use a simple wooden piece for the brush’s handle. As a result the brush may not feel as good as the Edwin Jagger but it is twice as cheap.

3. SimplyBeautiful Basic 100% Pure Badger Shaving Brush

The Simply Beautiful shaving brush is another relatively cheap unit that still uses those important badger hairs to create the perfect leather. The thing that really impressed as about it was that it got a 4.4 star rating on Amazon, whereas the Edwin got a 4.5. So the difference in quality is indeed low while the quality of the brush is very close to the best. The one thing that the Simply Beautiful does not have is the drying stand and we encourage you to come up with your own drying system to prevent bacteria spread.

Besides the Edwin Jagger there really is just one other name that stands out in the shaving brushes market and it is Parker. The difference is that Parker has several lines of products to match every type of pocket while Edwin Jagger focuses only on high end products. So we are going to talk about the 3 Parker shaving brushes. The first one featured here is their top end product that uses badger hairs, and a chrome base for so that you can handle it comfortably. It also comes with a stand for proper drying.

5. Parker Safety Razor 100% Black Badger Bristle Shaving Brush

This next Parker shaving brush is their most affordable product and it still comes with the badger hair bristles and with a stand for drying. The difference is in that the handle is made out of wood and it is really simple, although quite comfortable. It also got the lowest Amazon star rating, 4.3 stars, of all the Parker shaving brushes.

6. Parker Safety Razor 100% Pure Badger Bristle Shaving Brush

Finally, this is the mid range Parker shaving brush, although you may be able to convince us that it should be their top of the range one. It is the more classical of the three with badger bristles and an ebony handle. So, in case you were wondering, the handle is not painted black, it is actually made out of dark ebony wood. It too comes with a drying rack but it costs a lot less than their top end product, which is why this is our favorite affordable shaving brush of all time.

7. Van Der Hagen Premium Shave Set

We really think that every man should shave, at least when at home, with lather they created themselves with a shaving brush. However, if you are not convinced about how good this type of shaving would feel and do not want to invest too much at once, you should try the Van Der Hagen shaving brush. It is the cheapest product we could find that still merits a place on our top ten best shaving brushes of 2014 list, and it comes not only with the brush, but also with the shaving soap and a shaving bowl. The only thing that you should know is that they are using boar hairs so, once you will become convinced that this method is better, you will need to buy another shaving brush.

8. Tweezerman Men’s Shaving Brush

The Tweezerman shaving brush is the cheapest shaving brush made from badger hair that you should buy as a gift or for your own use. We are going to also introduce a shaving brush that is even cheaper than this one, but you should only buy that one if you are planning to use it for less than a year. The Tweezerman has a clean, classical design with a wooden handle and it is quite comfortable to hold and to use.

9. Van Der Hagen Men’s Luxury, Shave Set

Van Der Hagen, the guys who created that set for beginners we talked about earlier also have a similar kit in the deluxe category. We think that you should buy each one of these products individually so that you can choose the best one for your skin type. However the Van Der Hagen deluxe set uses badger hairs, comes with a drying rack, shaving soap and cup and we think it would make the perfect gift if you are trying to get someone to start making their own shaving lather. In fact that is the only reason why we decided to include the Van Der Hagen deluxe shaving kit in our top ten best shaving brushes of 2014 list.

Finally, the Luxor shaving brush is the one product we warned you that we would feature here but that you should only get if you are planning to use it for less than a year. It uses badger hair but, in order to keep the price as low as they did, they trimmed the bushel to half of what it should be. The result is that you have to work twice as hard to get the kind of lather you need and you can even end up getting a rash from the intense friction. Still, the Luxor does the job well enough and it may be something you buy just to give this process of making your own lather a try.
